Business lending still alive despite housing loan surge
This article takes a deeper look at recent business lending data released by the Financial Regulator APRA, both by business loan and also by lending institution. Analysis of the data shows that banks are continuing to lend to businesses despite the surge in lending to housing, and despite the debt deleveraging of some sectors as economic conditions remain weak. The share of business lending as a proportion of total lending is continuing to be squeezed by the more rapid gains in housing and government loans, and this lending squeeze is more evident outside of the big four lenders. What lies ahead?
