Client Position:
“Lansdowne” was established in 1861 and is a very well renown pastoral holding company located in the Tambo district of QLD. The original property covered almost 200,000 hectares and ran 186,000 sheep. Today the property comprises a total area of 64,857 hectares, and runs 14,000 merino ewes and 2,000 breeding cows. Mr Hume Turnbull has been managing “Lansdowne” since 1991, and is supported by six permanent employees.
The clients had a long-term relationship with one of Australia’s major banks. While the relationship has been strong, the interest rate being charged did not match the quality and strength of the client’s business.
Having achieved only minor success in negotiating lower interest rates themselves, the clients, out of good corporate governance, engaged Robinson Sewell Partners (RSP) for their expertise in agricultural finance to pursue further economic and structural benefits for the business.
RSP Solution:
RSP conducted detailed financial due diligence and articulated the strength of the credit profile within their analysis, presentation and negotiation to a panel of financiers.
Materially improved terms were achieved by undertaking a formally controlled bank tender, in which two other banks were invited to submit their expressions of interest for the client’s business.
The existing bank retained the client’s business in return for further interest rate reductions negotiated by RSP through the competitive tender process. RSP has maintained active within the management team of “Lansdowne” to provide ongoing strategic advice with regards to their evolving funding requirements.
